We rarely consider the original forms of the gifts (gold, frankincense, myrrh) given to the Christ-child. What’s interesting about these three things is that all three must be cut/broken to harvest what is most precious about them. In their way, they symbolize what will happen to the adult Jesus…body broken and pierced to allow His blood to flow and become our covering.
