Product Description
The name of this piece, “postcard”, came first. I thought of old postcards I purchased (when I went to DC in my 20s) when I bought the canvas; I felt this was a good size to create the sentiment of a postcard. The subject matter took a bit longer. Once the background was done, I got a better sense of what could fill the space…and then I recalled the Flame Tree. Flame trees are in the bonsai family, and typically live in warmer climates. The blooms look like a blaze, and I felt it would be a nice contrast visually.
The birds were not originally planned for this piece. I had to take a 3-week pause in a series I’m working on, and during that break was when I decided the doves were the missing part of this canvas. Once I had decided to add them, I concluded that this would be a prelude to the series that I will soon release. This whole thing is a testament to how plans can evolve and change for the better, especially when you bring God into the process!
