Moonflower

Product Description

This piece was inspired by the background. After painting it, I felt a white plant would be the best pairing with the tone. A bit of research, and even a vote in my instastories; thus was the moonflower chosen. Moonflowers are in the morning glory family (a fave flower of mine), but ironically they bloom at night, like their name implies. This painting was a true challenge, particularly because of the shading in the flower. I even called one round the “sand-dollar phase”, owing to the tones I had to use and the shape of the flower during that stage.

Moonflower turned out to be the right choice in another way, too. Some of the most lovely things bloom in the unlikeliest places and times. What better example than this pure white flora blooming in the dark of night! If you are struggling with feeling like you are stagnant or stunted where you’re planted, I hope this piece inspires you to see that your place of flourishing may not be in an expected place, but that you WILL bloom beautifully in the right space and timing!
