Be careful who gets the glory
As business owners and entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves in positions of influence—whether through our products, our platforms, or the relationships we build with others. And with this influence comes a responsibility. The journey of building a business or ministry can bring success, recognition, and even admiration. However, we must constantly check ourselves to ensure that we are not seeking glory for ourselves but, instead, pointing everything back to God.
In Acts 12:23, we read the story of King Herod, who was praised by the people:
“This is the voice of a god, not a man!”
Herod did not correct them. He did not redirect the praise to God. Instead, he accepted the glory that was meant for God alone.
And in that very moment, God’s judgment fell on Herod:
“Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down…”
— Acts 12:23 (NIV)
This passage serves as a sobering reminder that God will not share His glory with anyone. We can be tempted to take credit for our accomplishments or bask in the praise and admiration of others. But as Christians, we are called to reflect God’s glory, not our own.
The Power of Redirecting Glory to God
As Galilee Life Christian Marketplace vendors, you are doing amazing work in sharing your talents and products with the world. But let us not forget that this platform, this community, this business—it all exists because of God’s faithfulness and His provision. Each of you is part of a much greater mission—spreading His love and truth through your craftsmanship, your creativity, and your dedication to doing business in alignment with Christian values.
When success comes, and it will, be sure to redirect the glory upward. As the Bible says, God will not share His glory (Isaiah 42:8). This is why it is important to remind ourselves and others that the gifts we use to serve our customers, the wisdom we apply to our businesses, and the strength we carry to keep going all come from God alone.
Our Role as Vessels, Not Idols
Vessels, not idols. We are messengers, not the message.
In everything we do, we should aim to make God the focal point. It’s easy to become enamored with our accomplishments and the accolades that may come along with them. But let’s not forget: We are vessels carrying His message to the world. We are His tools, used for His glory, and our work is a reflection of His greatness, not our own.
As Christian entrepreneurs, your business is more than just a source of income or a means of personal success. It is an opportunity to share God’s love, to make disciples, and to glorify God in all that you do. Whether it’s through creating beautiful handmade products, sharing inspirational stories, or interacting with your customers, everything points back to Him.
Redirecting Glory in Your Business
How can you ensure that you are giving God the glory in your business? Here are a few ways to redirect the praise and honor to God:
- Start Your Day in Prayer
Before you dive into the daily tasks of running your business, spend time with God. Ask Him to guide you, give you wisdom, and use you as a vessel to impact lives for His Kingdom. Prayer keeps you humble and reminds you that everything you do is for His glory. - Acknowledge God in Your Work
As you create, design, or work with your customers, acknowledge God in the process. Give Him the credit for the ideas, the skills, and the success you experience. When you share about your business, always remember to mention how He’s helped you along the way. - Be Intentional with Your Marketing and Messaging
Whether it’s through your product descriptions, website copy, or social media, make sure your messaging points to Christ. Share Bible verses that align with your brand values and reflect God’s Word in all that you do. This helps your customers see that your business is not just about making sales but about making an eternal impact. - Give Back
Use your platform to give back to God’s work. Whether you support missions, ministries, or Christian charities, be sure that a portion of your success is dedicated to advancing the Kingdom of God. This could be through donations, partnering with a cause, or using your business to support others in need. - Be Humble
Humility is key in reflecting God’s glory. When you achieve success, don’t boast about it, but humbly acknowledge that it is God’s grace that has brought you to this place. Share your testimony, and allow others to see how God has been faithful in your business journey.
God’s Provision in Our Businesses
One of the most comforting truths is that God is always ahead of us. Just as He provided for the Israelites in the desert, He will provide for us in our businesses. God’s provision never runs dry, and when we walk in obedience and faith, He will provide everything we need to fulfill the mission He has placed on our hearts.
As Galilee Life Christian Marketplace vendors, you are walking in the legacy of those who faithfully serve God in their work. Your business is not just a transaction; it’s a ministry. It’s an opportunity to serve others and share the love of Christ through your products, your work ethic, and the way you treat others.
The Call to Reflect God’s Glory
This Holy Week, as we reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, let us also be reminded of the glory of God and how it is meant to be reflected in our businesses. The death and resurrection of Jesus signify the ultimate sacrifice and obedience to God’s will, and as His followers, we are called to reflect that same humility and submission to His plan in our lives and work.
When we give God the glory, we are testifying to the world that our business is not about us—it’s about Him. It’s about showing others that Jesus is the true foundation of our success, and He is the reason we keep going.
Conclusion: Let Your Business Be an Altar for God’s Glory
As Christian entrepreneurs, let us keep our hearts and minds fixed on the truth that everything we do—whether in business, ministry, or life—should be done for the glory of God. We are vessels, not idols. We are messengers, not the message. When we humbly surrender to God’s plan, He will use us in ways we cannot even imagine.
As you continue your entrepreneurial journey, remember that God has already gone before you. You are empowered by His Holy Spirit, guided by His Word, and supported by a community of fellow believers. May your business reflect His light and love, and may you never forget to give Him the glory in all that you do.
Bible Verse:
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
