A deep relationship with God is crucial to developing your true self as an individual and an entrepreneur.
Many times, society defines a successful life as one that is filled with luxuries. In reality, to have money and to gift one’s self with the finer things in life is not wrong. After all, God allows us to enjoy the very things we work so long and hard for. However, if a “successful life”, in and of itself, were to only be founded upon materialistic attainments, it would not be true success at all.
True success is defined in such a beautiful and precise way in the Bible. In Proverbs 16:3, King Solomon says, “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” This means that in all things, we should keep God in the forefront and give Him the open door to do as He pleases. If we recognize that God is the One who establishes our steps, then materialistic attainment becomes secondary, while inner fulfillment becomes primary. Some of the most financially successful people have expressed that they feel miserable. Have you ever wondered why? It is because they are missing God’s direction. It is He who gifts us with the desires, goals, and aspirations to bring to life the exact things needed to make us succeed beyond what we can imagine. The more we involve God in our decision-making process, the easier it is to navigate our callings as leaders and entrepreneurs.
For this reason we must always seek God in all things as He is the ultimate roadmap to true success. Below, please find a “blueprint” detailing 4 recommendable steps to take in order to become a successful leader and entrepreneur.
1. No Fear
The majority of small business entrepreneurs live their lives in fear of the unknown. We launch businesses as side hustles because we not only have families to provide for, but we also depend on our 9-5 jobs to give us the certainty of when and how our next paycheck will come through. Let’s just be real. We all need certainty and when it comes to starting a small business, leaving the security of a 9-5 is just not susceptible for most individuals. We live in fear, but I will tell you this: with God, there is no reason to fear. When God is the leader of our endeavors, we are safe knowing that the ups and downs are all a process to teach us, strengthen us, and further establish our dreams. Surely, we can have full-time jobs while embracing our passions, but we must set short and long-term goals accompanied by a life of prayer. In this way, we are able to know how the Lord is leading us. To have our own businesses and to be able to fully provide for ourselves and our families is a blessing, and with God, certainly not impossible to attain. Nonetheless, the process to get there may take time. Therefore, do not lose heart, and do not fear, for God will help you.
Bible Verse: “For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” – Isaiah 41:13
2. No Comparison
In Psalms 139:14, King David, the king of Israel, says the following: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” In this verse, David is expressing his intimate relationship with God while acknowledging his God-given identity. When we come to know who we are, such as our gifts, talents, and skills, we are at a huge advantage. We soon begin to learn that to focus on other business owners’ journeys, such as their successes or lack thereof, truly becomes a waste of our time and energy. Most of us are stuck wondering how the next person turned their side hustle into a multi-millionaire company overnight. I will tell you this: nothing, absolutely nothing, happens overnight. Of course there are people who, undoubtedly, have “connections”, but that’s their journey, not ours. We will each have our own story to tell. When King David says, “[…] for I am fearfully and wonderfully made”, he is recognizing his uniqueness, his sole purpose, and God’s admiration for his creation. In the leadership Bible by John Maxwell it says, “God formed every complex detail of our bodies, minds and spirits.” All that we are is because of our creator, Jesus Christ. When our businesses reflect Jesus, we know there is not anyone who can compare to us, because, ultimately, there is not anyone who can compare to God. He made us each in a way that can only be defined, molded, and refined by Him. Our journeys can only be taken by us, so the only competitions that exist are in our minds. As we realize that with God, we don’t have competitors, we learn to live happier and more fruitful lives. There is not any single person whom we have to compete with to get God’s attention because, since before we were in our mother’s womb, He thought of us and knew who we would be and what we would be doing. Your life and your business is in the hands of the Almighty. His plan for you has already been set in stone. He knew what you would be doing, before you knew yourself. I encourage you to trust in God and you will persevere.
Bible Verse: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5
3. Authentic Motives
God gives us the desire to have authentic motives and to live authentic lives. We all know that this world can be cruel and filled with wicked people. All too often, when we start a business, we easily become a target for those who look for the most vulnerable, simply to tear them down. We begin to lean in and depend on those who are not meant to give us any kind of leadership advice. Their mission is to see us give up. But, what is God’s mission? His mission is to see us rise up against all adversity and continue to fight until we see our businesses flourish in the way He has promised. With God, we can be reassured that no matter where we are and what road we are taking, we will strive for honesty, integrity, and authenticity. Keeping God first in business urges business owners to act not on their own understanding, but on the understanding that God gives them to only pursue the things that will elevate them in love and sincerity for others. Be authentic, stay the course, and run your business in a way that you profoundly know would make God proud.
Bible Verse: “Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.” -Proverbs 16:8
4. A Heart that Knows
Business is not only about pushing paper and making money. The agenda that is glorified in this world may, very well, focus on those particular things. However, those who have a relationship with God and have founded their businesses with Jesus at the center, know that it is about farther more than what “meets the eye.” We were created with a heart that knows that leadership is about people: serving and loving them. A heart with God first learns that we work to please Him, not others. God is the owner of all riches and of more than the biggest billionaire in the world could ever see or touch. Following God is becoming an inherent of the kind of success that many will never see. When your heart knows that your business is truly a mission to exalt God and serve others, everything changes. You work with a mission to be the best you can be: not for you, not for others, but for Him.
Being an entrepreneur who keeps God first is one who lives knowing the definition of true success. It is about impact, about service, and about authentic leadership. It is not about work, experience, or what can be attained with our own power and might. Rather, it is about what we can do with Christ by our side, in us and around us.
My Business: Galilee Life
Our business is no longer just seen as a business because it has converted into a Godly driven mission. Galilee Life is not just my business, it is God’s business. He is the founder, investor, leader, and navigator. With God, you become an entrepreneur who works hard to give Him the glory. There may be a long and difficult process filled with heartaches and disappointments along the way, but eventually the victory and true success is ours.
For these reasons, keep God first in everything and he will ordain your steps.
